This ain't ordinary Chromexcel. North of the Cordovan is one way to name these beautiful horsehide strips. Located just above the area where Shell Cordovan is sourced, this leather has a beautiful shine and a tight grain. We love its versatility, while cowhide Chromexcel might not be the best choice for formal footwear, this one looks fantastic. But don't be fooled by the shiny and smooth surface, this leather can take a beating. Oxfords, chukkas, boots, loafers, chelseas. I can't think of a style that won't look great on horsehide Chromexcel.

Connor Wingtip review
This is my 5th pair of made to order shoes from John Doe. I have a wide foot (E) and I find the MTO ability at John Doe to be very valuable. For the first time in my adult life, I have shoes that fit, for a reasonable price. This my second Horsehide CXL pair. I ordered the Connor Longwing shoes with leather sole and heels. The color is great, the horsehide is great, and the fit is great. The leather lings are very soft. These are comfortable right from the box, as have been my other 4 pairs from JD. I am very happy with my purchases. My other pair of horsehide loafers are 2 years old and they are "weathering " well and the horsehide is mellowing and getting character color changes that are very appealing. I hope the Connor Longwings develop the same character as my old pair!
New Favorite Pair of Shoes
I've been wearing these shoes for the past two months and I have to say I'm impressed. There are some very minor details that some people might nit-pick: you can tell where the welting started/finished, and some of the cuts/stitching aren't perfect on tight corners. However, those details have become muted after a few months of wear, and I expect they will be unnoticeable after the shoes age with me for a few years. I'm typically incredibly hard on clothes and shoes, and these have stood up to my typical use brilliantly. I have very wide feet, and ordered and E width, but even so it seems like the sizing run just slightly narrow compared to US running shoes. More comparable to old high-top bowling shoes. I will definitely order again, especially now that I have my sizing dialed in...
420 Cap Toes in Tan Horsehide Chromexel
The boots were pretty much flawless. The only very minor "flaw" was one of the three rows of stitches in a triple-stitched area drifting away ever so slightly for a few millimeters. Some people might consider that a problem but I just consider it a character of hand-built quality. The boots themselves fit perfectly, are exceptionally comfortable and I can't wait to wear them for decades to come. I am already looking at what style to order next :-)
Galdi loafers in horsehide CXL
I bought three pairs of Galdi loafers using the 3 for 2 sale. It was a great deal on really high quality shoes. I have a wide foot and JD regularly supplies wide size shoes. I have purchased five pairs over the years. I am very happy with my purchases. The shoes are fully lines and are very comfortable. I ordered these horshide shoes because I like shell cordovan, and wanted to try the horsehide. These do crease like calf leather, but the finish and hard-wearing CXL finish are excellent. These are for casual and work environments, more on the office /work scale. Well made and comfortable right out of the box. i ordered the standard leather sole. I would buy these again.
Tan Horsehide Chromexcel 420's
The shoes are gorgeous. They arrived well packed and securely wrapped. The construction is phenomenal and the boots have a nice solid and heavy feel to them. The horsehide leather pops with its beautiful golden brown tones. The commando sole that I ordered with the boot is also very solid. The boots are 5/5. The only reason I didn't give the review 5 stars is because customer service was very slow. It took a little over two months for my boots arrive, and even though I tried contacting customer service, they did not get back to me until about 1&1/2 months after my order. But I think these boots are well worth the wait, they are excellent value and look fantastic. Thank you John Doe shoes!
Great looking boots
I ordered the Hartford boot with the Made in England commando sole and storm welt construction. The boot looks great and the horsehide is thick and robust with a deep brown color. The only QC issues I observed were a small paint mark on the heel and a slight gap at the welt join on one of the boots. A great value for the cost.
Excellent Value
Great quality shoe for a very reasonable price.
